Despite the Flight

At 4:45 p.m., I opened my front door dressed in the same clothes. But inwardly, I was dressed in blessings. On my lips was a shiny gloss of gratitude. The day before, I had packed pajamas, an extra shirt, socks, underwear and a toothbrush into my purse, yes, my purse. At 3:45 a.m., I was headed for Ontario Airport. I was extremely early in spite of the unexpected traffic and dense fog. Actually, I had missed the email that my flight was delayed two hours. I finally boarded at 8:00 a.m. only to hear this announcement, “The pilot will be here in 10 minutes.” What?! Our pilot had called in sick. Another pilot was coming from LAX. Then we had to wait for clearance for take-off because there was zero visibility. At this point, I was ready to use the emergency exit and go back home. Lucky for them, we received clearance shortly thereafter. When I landed at DFW, three of my cousins were waiting for me. Kay drove straight to Dodie’s Cajun Restaurant at the Harbor in Rockwall, Texas. We were celebrating Letitia’s 60th birthday. The birthday girl looked amazing! 60 looked like 30 on her. We ate some delicious cajun seafood, talked trash loudly and took pictures near the lake. It was a wonderful time with family. I slept well as I snored through the night. I was back at the airport at 10:00 a.m. And… I endured another long delay. Thank God that I made it safely home. It was all worth it.
