Day 3-June 1

The crew was up by 7:00 a.m. The female crew members were dressed alike in hot pink. The male members did not want to look alike. We were down to breakfast by 8:20 a.m. The breakfast was great. Definitely got the best bang for my buck here. I emphasized to my crew to take extra snacks. At 10 a.m. I was ready to go get that $4.08 gas, but our directions led us another direction. And Gas buddy is a liar. Gas at Casey was not a comparative price. I paid $4.69, still cheaper than Cali. We were in Iowa at 10:20 a.m. At the rest stop I noticed a bird had caught a ride with us. It was lodged in the grill. I dug the body out with a stick. Then I pulled the head out separately. Gross! Still continuing on I-80 E, we entered Illinois and I made the executive decision to detour north to Chicago. There was nowhere along the way to stop and take pictures in our cute outfits. Who cared that we were 5 hours behind schedule. We got to Naval Pier at 7:40 p.m. We quickly took pictures because the sun was setting and the temperature was dropping. We went inside for Chicago dogs, tacos and macaroons. As we were leaving, colorful sparks shot into the air over Lake Michigan. We left Chicago at about 9:00 p.m. At 9:30 p.m., we were in Indiana. Our destination was Toledo, 4 hours away. The co-captain was driving and I was afraid to fall asleep. I dozed off every now and then. She pulled off the freeway to a rest stop for a 5 minute nap. That turned into 20 minutes. I knew we were done for the night. Time had changed and it was 12:44 a.m. not 11:44 p.m.. I could not book a room online because it was the next day. Holiday Inn Express was 13 miles away. We took our chances and drove there. I pulled into the entrance and a sign was posted in the window. “No vacancies.” I followed the sign for the “Ratchet” Ramada Inn. I was able to get a room with two queen beds. Walking into to the room, an odd smell entered our nostrils and it was two double beds. Not happy. I laid in the bed and felt nauseous and dizzy. I sat in the chair for a while and opened the window and noticed there was no screen. Kyla got up and made sure the door was locked. Katrina dreamed someone stole our shoes because the door was unlocked. Kyla slept on the floor to have more room. I was finally able to go to sleep, too.
