Day 6-June 4

I woke up at 5 a.m. to get the last load out of the dryer before someone saw me. Kelsey got out of her all-night bath. Then the owner came to the door about an hour later. Oh no, I’ve been caught. “Is someone taking a shower?” she asked. “No,” I replied. “My daughter just got out of the bath.” She went in the bathroom and looked around. The bathwater was still in the tub. She showed me a picture of the apartment downstairs with water seeping down the corner of the wall. Not sure how that happened. But somehow an all-night bath was linked to it. We got dressed, cleaned the apartment and headed to the Staten Island Ferry Station. At 11:00 a.m., we floated across the Atlantic Ocean and viewed the Statue of Liberty on Liberty Island. It was a very cool, yet relaxing 25 minutes. We exited the ferry at Staten Island and immediately got back on to the return ferry. We grabbed lunch at Subway. I got a free orange gelato from the owner. On the freeway at 1:00 p.m. to view the New England states along the coast, all the way to Maine. We wanted to get there before dark. The race began. The Navigator had us routed for the coast from Connecticut to Maine. But the GPS thought it knew better and rerouted us through Connecticut. Aaaaah! Changed directions and we got to Rhode Island at 5:58 p.m.. Took a picture in front of the sign, made a U-turn and at 6:19 p.m. we were in Massachusetts. It was also time for a potty break at Bushes, lol. Next was New Hampshire. We crossed the bridge and finally at 8:30 p.m. right before dark, we took pictures with the headlights on in front of the Maine sign. Now what? Let’s eat. Went to the rest stop first and a gentleman asked, “Are you really from California.” Proudly I said, “Yes, we are!” We ordered food from Taco Bell and ate it on the way. I began searching for rooms in Concord, NH. There weren’t any vacancies. Keene had reservations at two hotels. They were both overpriced. The lesser of two evils was Days Inn for $258. It wouldn’t let me book for 6 people online or over the phone. The 4 of us, lol, stayed at the most expensive room at a basic hotel.
