Eye of the Storm

I ran as fast as I could. I almost slipped and fell as the rain began to pour and the wind began to howI. It looked like I was running to safety and escaping the problem. It was the exact opposite. There was a terrible situation that had occurred one evening. It consisted of bad behavior on my part because I did not get my way, silence from my daughter and the inability to help discipline from my ex-husband. So my 17 year-old daughter, Kyla, was kicked out and forced to live with her father AGAIN. But a week later, they were both living with me. During this time, God decided to teach us all a lesson in one fell swoop.

Four days after the incident, the two of them walked into the house as if nothing was wrong. I definitely felt awkward. My ex-husband laid on the floor and was sweating profusely. He clinched his chest while expressing extreme discomfort. I drove him to the emergency room and found out he had had a heart attack. As a result, my defiant teenager was stuck at my house. Upon my ex-husband’s release, he requested to recover at my house. “What just happened?” I thought.

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28

Kicking my daughter out gave my ex-husband a reason to drive 40 minutes to pick her up from school. They stopped by my house at the onset of his heart attack. I was instrumental in his timely and safe arrival to the hospital. God had quickly thrust us all together to resolve our issues. None of us had escaped what we were running from. The stress level was high for several days. Four weeks later, they are both still here and it is peaceful. But it required us to run into the eye of the storm to get here.

  1. Funny how God saw it all worked out before it ever happened. Proud of you for 1. Not killing them. 2. Trusting God to work it out.
